Jane Haas Damron, Ph.D., is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication and serves as its Undergraduate Program Director. She recently joined the Academy for Teaching & Learning as the Faculty Director for Short-Format Programs. She has been a member of the Baylor faculty since 2010, teaching courses in Interpersonal, Nonverbal, and Family Communication. She holds an M.A. from Baylor University and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin, both in Interpersonal Communication. Her research interests center on supportive communication in close relationships during times of transition and stress.
Dr. Damron has served Baylor in a variety of leadership and service roles at the department, college, and university levels. Her current service includes the Baylor Faculty Senate, the College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and the College of Arts & Sciences Teaching Innovation Award Committee. She previously served on Baylor’s Strategic Planning Group, which developed Baylor in Deeds, and Baylor’s Quality Enhancement Plan Development Committee. Within the Department of Communication, she has served as New Student Experience Director and Baylor in London Study Abroad Director. She is also a member of the graduate faculty in Communication and an affiliate faculty member in Women’s and Gender Studies.
Dr. Damron has been actively engaged with the Academy for Teaching & Learning throughout her time at Baylor, participating in a wide range of ATL programs and professional development opportunities, including Summer Faculty Institute and Baylor Fellows. Her teaching and mentoring have been recognized with the Collins Outstanding Professor Award and the Elizabeth Vardeman Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduates.
