Join the Institute for Faith and Learning for a dialogue on Thomas Aquinas and justice featuring two distinguished scholars of the Thomistic tradition, Jean Porter and Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P. Drawing on Aquinas's thought and the broader Christian intellectual tradition, Porter and Fr. White will explore the nature and demands of justice and consider the continuing significance of Aquinas's account for Christian moral and theological reflection today.

The event will feature conversation between the two speakers followed by an opportunity for audience questions.

About Jean Porter

Jean Porter, Ph.D., is John A. O'Brien Professor Emerita of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. A scholar of moral theology and Christian ethics, her research focuses on the history of the Christian moral tradition and its contemporary relevance, with particular attention to Thomas Aquinas, virtue, natural law, and justice.

Porter is the author of six books, including Justice as a Virtue: A Thomistic Perspective, The Perfection of Desire: Habit, Reason, and Virtue in Aquinas's Summa Theologiae, Ministers of the Law: A Natural Law Theory of Legal Authority, and Nature as Reason: A Thomistic Theory of the Natural Law. She earned her Ph.D. from Yale University.

About Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P.

Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., is Rector Magnificus and Professor Ordinarius of Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) in Rome. A Dominican priest and theologian, he specializes in Trinitarian theology, Christology, creation, and questions concerning nature and grace.

Fr. White is a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas and co-editor of Nova et Vetera. His books include The Incarnate Lord: A Study in Thomistic Christology, The Light of Christ: An Introduction to Catholicism, The Trinity: On the Nature and Mystery of the One God, and Contemplation and the Cross: A Catholic Introduction to the Spiritual Life. He earned his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford.
